Chapter 10

Hazel

Something earth-shattering and magical just happened between Jameson and me. Not just the orgasms or even the sex. Our souls joined as he looked deep into my eyes and made me his. It's a moment I'll never forget. I seem to be saying that a lot about my time with him. Every moment is one forever explicitly seared into memory.

He's still coming down from his own release, arms trembling, breaths harsh, forehead pressed to mine. "I can't let you go," he whispers.

"I don't want you to. We still have some time until Kaia gets up."

But the clomp of feet coming down the stairs proves me wrong. "Shit," Jameson says, leaping off me as though I bit him. He pulls on his pants and scrambles for his shirt, grabbing my clothes in the process and tossing them at me. "Get dressed."

Adrenaline courses through my veins at the thought of us being caught by Kaia. She doesn't need to see this, to know about the things adults do in the dark. We're supposed to shield her from this, to keep her the focus of our lives. That's why Jameson hired a nanny. Not to screw my brains out.

He throws a glance over his shoulder and his stricken expression says it all. This was a mistake. We never should've acted on our attraction. "I'll, um...I'll go first. I'll get her helping with breakfast, and you come out in a few minutes."

My chest hurts. I feel like I'm doing a walk of shame when in reality we shared something more special than I ever imagined. But then he lets go of the door handle and comes to my side, pulling me into his arms, he kisses me deeply. I'm breathless and lightheaded as he releases me.

"It's going to be nearly impossible for me to keep my hands off you. I hope you know that."

Heart fluttering, I have to clear my throat before I can speak. "But it'll be even more sweet when we're able to find time together."

He brushes his knuckles across my cheek and gives me that award-winning grin. "I hope you're not too attached to your bed, because you're going to be sleeping in mine from now on."

Then he opens the door and slips out into the hall. My heart squeezes when I hear his muffled voice as he greets Kaia followed by her giggles. He might not think he's cut out for fatherhood, but from where I stand, he's amazing.

After making sure my clothes are all in the right place, I fluff my hair and take a deep breath. It's not hard to slip out of his office and back upstairs. I can hear the two of them chatting about making waffles for breakfast. I rush to my room and dash into the adjoining bathroom to freshen up.

Staring at myself in the mirror, I can't help but smile at the memory of Jameson hovering over me. I had sex for the first time and it was better than I'd ever expected.
